About
Whether a complete beginner or an informally trained freediver/spearfisherman with years of experience, this course will set you on the right path to eliminate bad habits and
show you the most efficient and safe freedive techniques. During this course, students train the fundamentals of the FII education system in an easy-to-learn course format operating between the classroom, pool and open water setting. With a high emphasis on freedive safety training and technique development, students master the proper skills to effectively freedive up to depths of 66 feet/20 meters.
Prerequisites
-Competent swimming skills and comfortable in open water
-Participants must be 16 years or older
-Equipment: Wetsuit, mask, snorkel, long blade fins, weight belt, weights and timing device
3 Steps to Certification
Step 1: In person classroom session
Step 2: Pool training (same day as classroom)
Step 3: Ocean training
And that's it! you're certified!
Duration
Day 1:
-Classroom Session: 8am-1pm - Spear America, Costa Mesa
-Pool Session: 2pm-5pm - Location TBD
Day 2:
-Ocean Session: Take the ferry to Avalon to Casino Point Dive Park at Catalina.
All day experience. Times may vary. Approximate schedule is 7am-5pm
Gear
Students can purchase or rent gear at Spear America at least 1 day prior to their scheduled classroom session. Students receive discounts on gear purchases. Proper gear is extremely important to your safety and success for this course. We do not allow bodyboarding, surfing, snorkeling or scuba gear to be used for this course.
